Spacious and inviting, this wonderful campus home offers comfortable formal and informal spaces, connected but with just the right amount of separation. The generously proportioned foyer welcomes you home, opening to the living room, dining room and staircase that has a beautiful custom-designed wrought iron and Brazilian cherry wood banister.  The remodeled eat-in kitchen and adjacent family room accommodate casual gatherings that may spill over onto the marvelous rear sunporch.  A bedroom, full bath and laundry room complete the first floor.  The second floor includes the primary bedroom suite with a cozy office, a hall bath plus four additional bedrooms, one of which is oversized and could serve as a bonus room or a possible future ADU location due to separate outdoor access.  A lovely large well-maintained and fenced backyard offers space to relax, play, and entertain. Ideally located on a non-through street, around the corner from Lucille Nixon Elementary School, close to SCRA, Kite Hill, the Dish, the shops of California Avenue and major commute routes, this home checks all the boxes.  Don’t miss it!

*Available to qualified Stanford faculty and staff only*

Offered at $3,325,000

What the Sellers Loved

Things we have loved about this house and this neighborhood…

We have lived in this house for almost three decades. Those years have offered a lot of time with our family of five enjoying our home, appreciating all that Mears Court and Stanford campus offered, and reveling in glorious Northern California. We have managed transitions from busy family to empty nest to visiting adult children and grandchildren.

This house has been the setting for so much happiness. We enjoyed frequent meals on the sunporch and special occasions in the yard -- birthday parties, a wedding, and a baby shower. This home is spacious and inviting enough for us to have enjoyed both large and intimate holiday and work celebrations that included extended family, friends, neighbors, and work colleagues. On July 4th, we could stand on the upper platform of the outside stairs and see multiple fireworks displays. On Thanksgiving, dinner started with giving thanks and eating in the dining room and spilled into comfortable conversations in the family room, living room, and kitchen. We stargazed with binoculars or telescope from front/back yards or Kite Hill. Our kids and their friends played basketball in the driveway and music in the garage. We enjoyed the hundreds of ripe plums and apples from the numerous fruit trees in the backyard.

The community of Mears Court has been lovely; these neighbors are interesting and gracious, and we have enjoyed sharing this quiet (but not boring) street with them. Mears Court has been the setting for potluck get-togethers, disaster preparation, a collection of family recipes to share during pandemic, and frequent crossing of paths with dog-walkers, joggers, and bikers. This court is just around the corner from Nixon Elementary School, an amazing public school – we saw our children thrive there and in Palo Alto public middle and high schools.

And then there is living on Stanford campus. Here we could walk/bike to work to cultural and entertainment venues on campus, and to SCRA for swimming and tennis.  When they were young, our kids took great pleasure in Stanford’s youth sports camps, and we all enjoyed Stanford men's and women's sports seasons - basketball, baseball, football and volleyball. At one end of Stanford Avenue was the Sunday Farmer’s Market on California Ave and at the other end was the entrance to the Stanford dish trails and views. The California Avenue CalTrain stop made it easy to get to Oracle Park and cheer on the SF Giants. Like many of us in the community, we took advantage of a Stanford-specific offer to adopt solar energy in our neighborhood.

In the end, it is hard to move from such a wonderful house and community, yet, as we start to wind down our Stanford careers, it is time to move north to San Francisco to be closer to children and grandchildren. We think you will love this house and community too.
